Response to 12/18/09 Letter from PCSSD Board President

December 19, 2009

And the Board’s deceptions continue…

Today, the President of the PCSSD School Board sent a letter of desperation to teachers, parents, and patrons regarding his interpretation of recent events. The letter was sent home with students, posted on Ed-Line, and posted on the District website.

It appears that the Board President has not read the PCSSD Board’s own policies (BBA, BBAA, and BCA) because I do believe that he over-stepped his authority as a member of the PCSSD School Board when he spoke/acted on behalf of the Board without the Board, by a vote, delegating such authority to him (Board Policy BBAA).

To spend thousands of taxpayer dollars and command hours of District employee manpower to send out copies of a ridiculous, immature, and vindictive letter – when teachers are being told that there is a shortage of paper for instructional purposes – is absolutely ludicrous. And of course the letter neglected to inform parents/patrons of the harassment and threats the teachers he claims to “value” have been subjected to this week. Were you at PACT’s ratification meeting? Did the tentative agreement package you ratified have 80 pages? No! Did PACT’s chief negotiator explain the entire package in about one hour? Yes! It is difficult to understand why the Board President’s letter would attempt to mislead.

Based on the number of calls and e-mails that I have received from teachers and patrons, it seems the intent of the letter may have actually backfired on the Board President. The reaction to reading his long and sometimes confusing message disgusted PACT members and parents alike. The PACT leadership will not be baited into a juvenile game of “he said, she said.” Our comments will remain truthful and we will not lose sight of what it means to be professional. PACT members can rest assured that the inaccurate statements contained in President Clark’s letter will be addressed in court.

Enjoy your holidays and please continue to check the PACT website for up-to-date information.

In Solidarity,
Marty
